Alpharetta-area (Fulton County) Public Schools

Alpharetta has some of the best schools in the state - and many people choose to live in Alpharetta solely for the quality of the schools.  SAT scores at all four Alpharetta High Schools are in the Top Ten in Georgia.

Alpharetta's middle and elementary schools also rank very highly against metro area and state schools.  Of the four Platinum Awards for high achievement given by the Single Statewide Accountability System to Fulton County schools, two were awarded to Alpharetta area elementary schools:  Crabapple Crossing and Summit Hill.  Seven other schools were Gold Award recipients and two received Silver Awards.

In the ranks of the Middle Schools, Haynes Bridge, Webb Bridge and Taylor Road Middle Schools are all Georgia Schools of Excellence.

Instead of just a verbal and math section, the SAT now has three sections ñ math, critical reading, and writing. Each are scored within a range of 200-800 points, combining for a total of 2400 rather than 1600.

New Boundaries Proposed in Draft Plan of Birmingham Elementary Redistricting

ALPHARETTA - Two things are abundantly clear:  First, one of the chief reasons that North Fulton schools are as good as they are is because of incredibly strong parental involvement.

Last night’s third round Birmingham Elementary redistricting meeting was attended by approximately 750 people - and this was down from the roughly 1,000 [...]

Redistricting Affects Cogburn Woods, Summit Hill, Manning Oaks and Crabapple Crossing the Most

ALPHARETTA - Not having attended the Round One redistricting meeting, I was floored by how many people attended last week’s Round Two meeting where three alternative redistricting maps were revealed. The gym at the Milton Center was packed with hundreds of people.

I was under the impression that redistricting for the new Birmingham [...]

MILTON - The second round of redistricting meetings to see which little feet walk through this door in the Fall will be Thursday night at 7PM at Milton Center, which is the OLD Milton High School.

I missed the first meeting, but plan on being at this one and will report back on this blog what [...]

New High School in Milton Makes NIMBY Appear

MILTON - I received a voice mail message a couple of weeks ago that I unfortunately erased. I had saved it and hadn’t immediately responded or blogged about it because I didn’t want to say something off the cuff or reactionary without considering my response thoroughly.

Time has passed now and the voice mail [...]

Redistricting Meetings Scheduled | Contruction Continues on New Birmingham Elementary School

I recently updated my chronicle of the new Birmingham Elementary School’s construction .  (See the entire Gallery HERE .) The steel is being set in place and the school is beginning to take real shape, so much so that it is time to start discussing redistricting .

The three-meeting redistricting process is scheduled to [...]

Red School Grabs the Blue | Milton High School Honored as National Blue Ribbon School for 2008

MILTON - While the Milton Eagles football team was running left, right and up the middle on the Wheeler Wildcats last Friday night, the PA Announcer came on and made a barely audible announcement that Milton High School had been awarded a 2008 National Blue Ribbon for excellence last week.

Being named a national Blue [...]

Alpharetta High Schools Still Among the Best in Georgia | Five North Fulton Schools in Georgia Top Ten

The SAT test scores for 2008 have been released by the College Board.  As a group, the six North Fulton High Schools are still collectively the best in the Georgia.

Not much has changed on the state level either.  Of the top fifteen high schools, only one was not in the top fifteen a year [...]
