Pebble Beach Comes to Alpharetta
categories: Stuff I like to talk about
Please indulge me for going a little off topic with this post, but I had to let you know that I did it.
Yesterday, for my birthday, I finally realized a dream: I played Pebble Beach. Now I’ve checked that one off my list of “lifetime to do’s.”
For those of you who couldn’t get a hold of me to buy or sell a house, I was on the links! ;->
Well, sort of. I did play Pebble (and shot a 73 with back to back birdies on 15 and 16), but I didn’t leave the humble confines of Fulton County. I went to “Worlds Greatest” on HWY 9 in Alpharetta and I played on the golf simulator. From first tee to final green, it took me about an hour. That’s because I had the course to myself and you never have to walk to your ball! That left me with enough time to take a short lesson from teaching pro, Randy Cavanaugh.
Today I saw the future not only of golf instruction but also of basement remodeling. Look at it this way, I was doing research for all my clients who want to finish their basements with the latest in media equipment. The HD golf system is a turn-key golf simulator AND home theatre system. You can play
golf and watch movies in the same room…that is a better combination than chocolate and peanut butter.
One of the markets for this golf technology is high-end residential basements. If you are a golf addict (guilty as charged!) and have at least 10-ft ceilings in your basement, you may want to consider this option. You can play not only Pebble, but also Harbour Town, Banff Springs, Kiawa Island and Pinehurst to name a few. Every course is documented with as many as 5,000 individual photographs and satellite imagery so that everything you see projected is exactly where man and mother nature put it.
If the idea of having your own collection of the best golf courses in the country that you can walk onto anytime you like is vaguely intriguing to me, contact me and maybe we can go play a round together. I need an excuse to do it again.
And if you must know…the simulator does have a “Mulligan Button” which I used way too much, so it certainly wasn’t a legitimate 73 I shot. Plus, I did hit it in the ocean on 18 and behind the big tree next to the green, which I was determined not to do. Still it was fun standing on that 18th tee box and seeing the identical view the players have instead of the one the blimp has. One day, I still might like to play it in person particularly now I know what club to hit for my second shot on #8.
